A Sanskrit verse is quoted here, meaning that there are nine lakh water-born species, ten lakh birds, eleven lakh insects and worms, twenty lakh cattle and similar beasts, thirty lakh plants and other immobile forms, and four lakh human beings; when a soul's sin and merit become exactly balanced, it attains birth in a human body.
