धन्य धन्य हा वायुदेव । याचा विचित्र स्वभाव । वायोकरितां सकळ जीव । वर्तती जनीं ॥ १ ॥

Blessed is this god Vayu, whose nature is truly wondrous; because of the wind, every living being in the world is able to move and act.

वायोकरितां श्वासोश्वास । नाना विद्यांचा अभ्यास । वायोकरितां शरीरास । चळण घडे ॥ २ ॥

Because of Vayu, breathing continues; the practice of every kind of learning too depends on him (through speech); and because of Vayu, the body is able to move at all.

चळण वळण प्रासारण । निरोधन आणी आकोचन । प्राण अपान व्यान उदान । समान वायु ॥ ३ ॥

Moving, bending, stretching, restraining, and contracting - all these actions occur through the five vital winds: prana, apana, vyana, udana, and samana.

नाग कूर्म कर्कश वायो । देवदत्त धनंजयो। ऐसे हे वायोचे स्वभावो । उदंड असती ॥ ४ ॥

Naga, Kurma, Krikala, Devadatta, Dhananjaya - such are the many subsidiary forms and functions of this same vital wind.

वायो ब्रह्मांडीं प्रगटला । ब्रह्मांडदेवतांस पुरवला । तेथुनी पिंडी प्रगटला । नाना गुणें ॥ ५ ॥

Vayu first appeared in the macrocosm, sufficient for all the cosmic deities, and from there manifested in the individual body (the microcosm) with all his various functions.

स्वर्गलोकीं सकळ देव । तैसेचि पुरुषार्थी दानव । मृत्यलोकींचे मानव । विख्यात राजे ॥ ६ ॥

All the gods in heaven, the mighty demons too, and the renowned kings among mortal men on earth - all of them exist by the power of this same wind.

नरदेहीं नाना भेदे । अनंत भेदाचीं श्वापदें । वनचरें जळचरें आनंदें । क्रीडा करिती॥ ७॥

Among human bodies there are countless variations, and endless kinds of wild beasts, forest creatures, and water creatures play joyfully about - all of this too through the wind.

त्या समस्तांमधें वायु खेळे । खेचरकुळ अवघें चळे । उठती वन्हीचे उबाळे । वायोकरितां ॥ ८॥

Within all these creatures the wind plays; the whole race of birds moves through it; and even the flames of fire leap up and blaze through the wind's power.

वायो मेघाचें भरण भरी। सवेंच पिटून परतें सारी । वायो ऐसा कारबरी । दुसरा नाहीं ॥ ९ ॥

The wind fills the clouds with their burden of rain, and just as swiftly drives them off elsewhere; there is no other manager like the wind.

परी ते आत्मयाची सत्ता । वर्ते शरीरीं तत्वता । परी व्यापकपणें या समर्था । तुळणा नाहीं ॥ १० ॥

Yet in truth it is the power of the Self alone that operates within the body through this form of wind; still, in terms of sheer pervasiveness, nothing compares to this mighty Vayu.

गिरीहून दाट फौजा । मेघ उठिले लोककाजा । गर्जगर्जों तडक विजा । वायोबळें ॥ ११ ॥

Like dense armies rising over the mountains, the clouds gather for the world's benefit, thundering and flashing with lightning - all by the strength of the wind.

चंद्रसूर्य नक्षत्रमाळा । ग्रहमंडळें मेघमाळा । यें ब्रह्मांडीं नाना कळा । वायोकरितां ॥ १२ ॥

The moon, the sun, the garland of stars, the array of planets, the procession of clouds - all these countless workings of the cosmos proceed through the wind.

येकवटलें तें निवडेना । कालवलें तें वेगळें होयेना । तैसें हे बेंचाड नाना । केवी कळे ॥ १३ ॥

What is fused together cannot be told apart, what is mingled cannot be separated out; so too, how can one ever fully grasp this wind's countless bewildering workings?

वायो सुटे सरारां । असंभाव्य पडतीगारा । तैसे जीव हे नीरा- । सरिसे पडती ॥ १४ ॥

When the wind rushes forth violently, hailstones fall in vast numbers; and, as it were, living beings too fall like drops of rain along with the water.

वायुरूपें कमळकळा । तोचि आधार जळा । तया जळाच्या आधारें भूगोळा । शेषें धरिलें ॥१५ ॥

In the form of the lotus-power, the wind itself supports the water; and it is upon that very water's support that the serpent Shesha bears the entire earthly globe.

शेषास पवनाचा आहार । आहारें फुगे शरीर । तरी मग घेतला भार । भूमंडळाचा ॥१६॥

Even Shesha's food is the wind itself; nourished by it, his body swells, and only then is he able to bear the whole weight of the earth.

माहांकूर्माचें शरीर भलें । नेणों ब्रह्मांड पालथें घातलें । येवढें शरीर तें राहिलें । वायोचेनी ॥ १७॥

The vast body of the great cosmic Tortoise - so immense it seems like the universe turned upside down - even that body is sustained only by the wind.

वाराहें आपुलें दंतीं । पृथ्वी धरिली होती । तयाची येवढी शक्ती । वायुबळें ॥ १८ ॥

The Boar (Varaha incarnation) once bore the earth upon his tusk; even that tremendous strength of his came from the power of the wind.

ब्रह्म विष्णु महेश्वर । चौथा आपण जगदेश्वर । वायोस्वरूप विचार । विवेकी जाणती ॥ १९ ॥

Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and, as a fourth, God himself, the Lord of the universe - how all of these are pervaded by this same form of wind is understood only by the truly discerning.

तेतिस कोटी सुरवर । अठ्यासी सहस्र ऋषेश्वर । सिध योगी भारेंभार । वायोकरितां ॥ २० ॥

The thirty-three crore gods, the eighty-eight thousand great sages, and countless siddhas and yogis beyond number - all of them exist through this very wind.

नव कोटी कात्यायणी । छेपन कोटी च्यामुंडिणी । औट कोटी भूतखाणी । वायोरूपें ॥ २१॥

The nine crore Katyayanis, the fifty-six crore Chamundas, the three-and-a-half crore hosts of spirits - all these too have manifested in the form of wind.

भूतें देवतें नाना शक्ती । वायोरूप त्यांच्या वेक्ती । नाना जीव नेणो किती । भूमंडळीं ॥ २२ ॥

Spirits, deities, and countless divine powers - their very manifestations too are forms of wind; how many kinds of beings exist upon this earth, no one truly knows.

पिंडीं ब्रह्मांडीं पुरवला । बाहेर कंचुकास गेला । सकळां ठाईं पुरवला । समर्थ वायु ॥ २३ ॥

This mighty wind fills both the microcosm and the macrocosm, and reaches even beyond, into the outer sheaths of creation; he is complete and present everywhere.

ऐसा हा समर्थ पवन । हनुमंत जयाचा नंदन । रघुनाथस्मरणीं तनमन । हनुमंताचें ॥ २४ ॥

Such is this mighty Vayu - Hanuman is his very son; and Hanuman's whole body and mind remain forever absorbed in remembrance of Raghunath.

हनुमंत वायोचा प्रसीध । पित्यापुत्रांस नाहीं भेद । म्हणोनि दोघेहि अभेद । पुरुषार्थविषीं ॥ २५ ॥

Hanuman is the celebrated son of Vayu; and since there is no real distinction between father and son, the two of them are one and the same in valor.

हनुमंतास बोलिजे प्राणनाथ । येणें गुणें हा समर्थ । प्राणेंविण सकळ वेर्थ । होत जातें ॥ २६ ॥

Hanuman is called "Lord of Life-Breath" (Prananath), and it is by this very quality that he is so mighty; for without the vital breath, everything else becomes utterly useless.

मागें मृत्य आला हनुमंता । तेव्हां वायो रोधला होता । सकळ देवांस आवस्ता । प्राणांत मांडलें ॥ २७ ॥

Once, when death threatened Hanuman, Vayu himself held his breath (in grief and rage); as a result, even all the gods were plunged into a mortal crisis.

देव सकळ मिळोन । केलें वायुचें स्तवन । वायो प्रसन्न होऊन । मोकळें केलें ॥ २८ ॥

All the gods gathered together and offered praise to Vayu; pleased at last, Vayu released his breath once more, and all was set free.

म्हणोनि प्रतपी थोर । हनुमंत ईश्वरी अवतार । यचा पुरुषार्थ सुरवर । पाहातचि राहिले ॥ २९ ॥

Thus Hanuman, of such great might, is truly a divine incarnation; the gods themselves could only stand and watch in wonder at his valor.

देव कारागृहीं होते । हनुमंतें देखिलें अवचितें । संव्हार करूनी लंकेभोंवतें । विटंबून पाडिलें ॥ ३० ॥

The gods were being held captive in a prison in Lanka; Hanuman happened upon them unexpectedly, then laid waste to all of Lanka round about, humiliating it utterly.

उसिणें घेतलें देवांचें । मूळ शोधिलें राक्षसांचें । मोठें कौतुक पुछ्यकेताचें । आश्चर्य वाटे ॥ ३१ ॥

He repaid the gods' debt and got to the very root of the demons' wrongdoing; the exploits of this tail-bannered hero left everyone marveling in astonishment.

रावण होता सिंह्यासनावरी । तेथें जाऊन ठोंसरे मारी । लंकेमधें निरोध करी । उदक कैचें ॥ ३२ ॥

While Ravana sat upon his throne, Hanuman went right up and struck him with blows, and he cut off Lanka's very water supply as he laid the city waste.

देवास आधार वाटला । मोठा पुरुषार्थ देखिला । मनामधें रघुनाथाला । करुणा करिती ॥ ३३ ॥

Seeing this, the gods took heart, witnessing such tremendous valor; and in their hearts, they began to pray to Raghunath for mercy.

दैत्य आवघे संव्हारिले । देव तत्काळ सोडिले । प्राणीमात्र सुखी जाले । त्रयलोक्यवासी ॥ ३४ ॥

All the demons were destroyed, the gods were instantly freed, and every living being throughout the three worlds found happiness once more.
